Teacher expertise and credentials
With a BA in English from DePaul and one year of Japanese instruction there, I moved to Kyoto, Japan, and studied in the Intensive Japanese Language program at Ritsumeikan University for 1 year. Since completing that in 2014 I have self studied and received an N2 certificate in the JLPT (proficiency exam carried out by Japanese government). I have been teaching this course year round for over 4 years in my Chicago homeschool community, as well as online to groups and private students. Through my company, Frog Walker World, LLC, I have led private group tours through Japan, guiding families bilingually, and chaperoning unattended minors through that experience. Additionally I work part-time as a translator for the Tokyo branch of Art Battle (a NYC-based art company), and have served as the interpreter for live performers at the Japan House Matsuri, UIUC. All of these experiences - connecting directly with Japanese friends/business partners, and integrating with families in my community - have put me in an ideal position to bring this work to the youth.Reviews
