Beginner - Intermediate Level
Fostering independence is an important skill as children grow older. This includes teaching teens to embrace their creativity and make things for themselves. Utilizing these skills in the kitchen can spur a love of baking or simply be an outlet to comfort and grow. In this Self Paced Class, students will have weekly assignments to complete at their own pace. Learners will have the help of video instruction that they can watch over and over again, as needed. While there is no live lesson, the instructor will always be available to answer any questions they may have. This is a beginner course that will feature recipes for various sweet treats in different categories. We will begin with an instructional video on kitchen safety then work through each section. Please be aware that this is geared toward learners who are brand new in the kitchen or helpers that are ready to take on tasks of their own. Each Video will begin with explaining necessary supplies, and a step-by-step instruction of what we will be doing. Students will receive a syllabus for the class detailing what is expected as well as what they can expect. They will also receive a vocabulary list going over terms that we will commonly use in the class such as "fold", "preheat", "whipped", and "peaks". Recipe cards will also accompany the video instruction. Students are encouraged to save and write any helpful notes on these recipe cards to ensure they can recreate the recipes in the future. Every week, students will have assignments in the form of a written report and photographs of their meal. A beginner pastry chef completion certificate will be available at the end of the term. Learners will then be able to move to the Intermediate class should they feel ready. If you have any questions regarding the class, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to meeting your beginning chef in class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Southern New Hampshire University
Hi there! I’m Tabitha Rivera and I am happy to meet you. A little about my background, I have a degree in English and Creative Writing and have been an online teacher for 6 years now. I also have 18 years teaching experience in a classroom setting in daycare, tutoring and homeschooling. I love learning and believe that everyone should have something fun to learn and grow with. I enjoy fostering in a student’s learning by providing thought-provoking out-of-the-box lessons that keep my learners asking questions and thinking long after the lesson is over. I also believe that learning should be fun! My classes provide hands on lessons that get my students moving and learning in new environments. My favorite part of teaching is answering my student’s questions and seeing them make new discoveries while following their passions.
I currently live in New Mexico with my daughter and 2 dogs. In my free time I enjoy working on writing my book, reading, traveling, cooking and baking. I also love to learn new languages and about every culture. I currently can speak 6 languages and look forward to adding more to my collection.
I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom! Thanks for stopping by!
