Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
Beginner Level
Join me for the second half of the yearlong "Fables, Myths, & Fairytales Writing Lessons" course to become strong, confident writers. Please note you MUST have participated in the first half of this curriculum in order to join the second half taught by me or another accredited IEW instructor.

This is a great course for students who are brand new to IEW, reluctant writers, and those who enjoy reading fairytales.

(If you would like to join me as we read the literature/read-aloud suggestions, you're welcome to join the flex classes at any time!)

Each week we will have a history-based writing lesson focusing on a different writing topic. This includes a lesson in:
* a specific subject and structure.
* stylistic techniques to enhance your writing.
* an introduction to new vocabulary words
* writing practice.

I am a huge fan of reinforcing concepts with gameplay so if time allows, I often try to include some kind of activity to keep learners engaged and solidify what they're learning.

Please see the Syllabus for the lesson breakdown by week.

*** Please note that this is a WRITING course. We are focusing on the writing structure and style during our meetings. ***

Price breakdown: $15/class x 15 classes this semester.
Learning Goals
During the second fifteen weeks (semester two), learners will cover Units 5 - 9 of IEW's Structure and Style.
Learners will also:
* Increase their vocabulary with new words presented weekly.
* Learn how to structure their writing.
* Get an opportunity to practice writing daily.

Parental Guidance
IEW is a wonderful writing program but, especially in the beginning, is best for those who have writing support at home. While the content is not the most important part of the program, being able to follow the directions and guidance supplied in class and in the workbooks is. Gimkit, Blooket, and Kahoot! will be used for gameplay as an assessment tool in addition to what learners write in class. Please note that an account is not required. The game code will be sent to learners during class. Google Suites products (Docs, Slides, Forms) will be used to present materials and submit writing assignments. Students are welcome to use the writing tool that best suits their needs and is approved by each family.

As a lifelong learner, I too am always striving for growth. After years of using the IEW curriculum, I decided I wanted to share what I had learned with others and became a registered instructor with IEW. (Link for verification: https://iew.com/events-classes/instructors/find-accredited-instructor/330449) I have also been a tutor (teacher) for a local classical co-op, studied through literature seminars, and attended practicums to enhance my own reading and writing knowledge.

I am also a certified TESOL/TEFL/EYL teacher, professional writer, beta reader, proofreader, editor, and homeschool mom. I have a love for the English language (I have the BA in English to prove it), the smell of new books, and transferring ideas from mind to paper. My goal is to promote a love of learning while offering a safe and fun environment. I truly have a passion for reading and writing and would love to share my knowledge and experience with your children.
