Class Experience

This class will be taught weekly, step-by-step videos that I will post to the classroom on Mondays. Students will take pictures of their work and post them in the weekly "showcase" thread in the classroom. This is how they will turn in their assignments. They will also be able to see each others work here. Each week there will also be a progress post where students can ask questions and I will respond either in writing or with a demonstration video. Students can also use both threads to communicate with each other.

Please note that students may need help with some aspects, namely threading the needle tying it off as well as cutting out the pieces. Some students this age simply do not have the fine motor skills needed.

Week one:
We will learn to thread a needle and tie it off. We will also learn a straight stitch and a whip stitch to practice that we will be using for the rest of the class.

Week two:
This week we will make a pin cushion to hold your pins and needles. We will also learn to sew on buttons, a skill we will need in weeks three and four.

Week three:
This week we will make a case that you can keep crayons or pencils in.

Weeks four and five. These last two weeks we will be making a pillow with decorations of your choice. We will be cutting out and sewing on felt shapes as well as buttons.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I began sewing when I was 11 and started teaching sewing as a senior in high school at the homeschool group I attended. This was how I discovered my love of teaching and I have been teaching in some capacity ever since. I now have over 10 years of teaching experience.
