US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner Level
In this fast-paced, twenty minute class (time specifically chosen as that is about as long as one can successfully focus in a second language before needing a break), students will learn a few basics of the French language that will allow them to introduce themselves to others and talk about what they want - vocabulary that is immediately useful in everyday life. The class uses the TPRS method of language teaching (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) where a teacher establishes the meaning of vocabulary in a shared first language, then uses the target language (French) to create a story. Finally, students translate a target language story into English to check for comprehension. The class is structured in the following manner: Quick hellos in French and English, Introduction of focus vocabulary and gestures - 6 StoryAsking - 7 minutes Reading and translation into English, goodbyes - 7 minutes Students will be interacting with me the entire class time and should be prepared to use a lot of French in these twenty minutes (with English used to clarify meaning when necessary)
