Register today with the Music & Language Learning Center with a $10 discount: 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐌𝐋𝐋𝐂𝟏𝟎𝟏𝟎 This is a basic introduction course to the French language that will follow the basic topics outlined in the course syllabus. Students will learn through lectures, in-class activities, and assignments provided by the teacher. This is a live interactive online course and students may email the instructor if there are any questions. The basic introduction course will provide the tools for students to take the Introduction that discuss the more technical elements of grammar, improving pronunciation, and writing. The class time is structured according to the syllabus outlined for each week along with the following topics. Each learner will learn how to introduce one another in French, ask how they are, and count from 0-20 in French. Assignment: Learners will create a video recording of the greetings and numbers learned in the lesson. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟐 - 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 Students will learn numbers 20-60 in French and learn how to tell time. Each student will get a chance to pick a place that they have always wanted to go to and learn how to tell time in French. Assignment: Students will create a paper clock to practice telling time. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟑 - 𝐀𝐥𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭 & 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 Students will work together learning the numbers from 60-80 in French. Throughout this lesson, students will learn how to recite the alphabet in French through a series of interactive activities and songs. They will also be introduced to different colours and be able to describe objects in French. Students will go on a scavenger hunt in their homes to find the different school supplies learned in class to present at the beginning of the following lesson. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟒 - 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 Students will learn numbers 80-100 in French, the months, and days in French. Throughout this class, students will learn how to state their birthdays in French. Students will be provided a video recording assignment where they recite the numbers, months, and days in French. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟓 - 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 Students will learn what daily routines are in French through different activities and games. Students will create a video recording assignment discussing what kind of daily routines they do. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟔 - 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 & 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Students will learn the names of different foods in French. There will also be a presentation about food culture and students will learn how to order food at the restaurant. Project: The students will create their own menu in French to post in the classroom. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟕 - 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 & 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Students will learn about family members in French and be able to describe personality characteristics using the verb être. They will also learn the vocabulary for French transportation. Assignment: Students will draw pictures of the family members and label them in French to present at the beginning of the following class. 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟖 - 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 There will be a final presentation that will be in the form of a video project for the students to present on their favourite topic learned throughout the course. There will also be a comprehensive review of the course. A choir director, soprano soloist, and music & language teacher, Laura Palladino made her professional debut as a chorister with Connecticut Grand Opera at age 17. She graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music with a B.Mus. in Vocal Performance, followed by studies in the MFA program in Voice at SUNY Purchase. Laura has performed with several New York-based opera and operetta companies, including Opera Northeast, New England Lyric Operetta, New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, and L’Opéra français de New York, as well as abroad with the Rome Opera Festival.
A resident of French-speaking Québec for over 20 years, Laura studied in the program Français langue seconde at Université Laval, a French-language institution. She also graduated with a B.A. in éducation musicale (Music Education) from Université Laval and has taught music in French at both primary and secondary French-language schools. Laura has also studied direction chorale (Choral Direction) with Alliance Chorale de Québec in Montréal and is active as a choir director and sacred music soloist. Passionate about music and languages, she knows that when students are having fun, they’re learning!
