Beginner Level
In this class students will be introduced to the drum set and learn a number of skills including but not limited to: -Music Literacy -Call and Response Rhythmic Ideas -Technique -Quarter, Half, Whole, and Eighth Notes -Basic Drum Beats -Basic Drum Fills -Quarter, Half, Whole Rests -How To Play Along to Popular Songs In the first class, students will learn basic music reading, different parts of the drum set and their first song. Each class after will start with a warm up sequence reviewing technique, the information covered in the previous lesson. Students will then engage in lesson material involving a new skill building off prior knowledge. Finally, students will engage in a lesson themed game at the end of class reinforcing material taught that day. Class will be taught be demonstrating the material presented to the students using visual and auditory cues, as well as teacher led demonstrations. Students will then have opportunities to try the lesson material and practice it before being informally assessed by the instructor. Class will be taught with a hands on approach, giving students constant constructive feedback while noting areas of proficiency as well as areas of improvement. Learners will have numerous opportunities to interact with other classmates through discussion, collaboration, games, questions, and annotation.

Syllabus
5 Lessons
over 1 WeekLesson 1:
Technique, Music Reading, Drum Identification and Rudiments
In this introductory lesson, students will start off by learning the different pieces of their drum set. Students will then learn proper grip and how to apply it to the drum set. Students will then learn and practice three basic rudiments. Students will then learn basic music reading skills including half, whole and quarter notes. Finally, students will finish with learning "We Will Rock You" by ear.

Lesson 2:
Basic Drum Grooves Pt. 1, Enemy, 8th Notes, Rests, and Lesson 1 Review
In our second lesson, students will start by reviewing all the previous information learned in the first lesson. After, students will be introduced to quarter, half, and whole rests and apply them in a musical setting. Students will also be introduced to 8th notes and given examples to practice. Finally, students will be introduced to Basic Drum Grooves and learn the song "Enemy".

Lesson 3:
Basic Drum Grooves Pt. 2, 8th Note Exercises, Clint Eastwood and Lesson 2 Review
In our third lesson, students will start by reviewing all the previous information learned in the second lesson. After, students will be introduced to Stick Control and play the first few examples. Students will then play through exercises practicing different 8th note and quarter note combinations to reinforce music literacy. Finally, the students will explore additional Basic Drum Grooves and apply them to the song "Clint Eastwood".

Lesson 4:
8th Note Fills, Basic Drum Grooves Pt. 3, Stick Control, and Lesson 3 Review
In our fourth lesson, students will start by reviewing all the previous information learned in the third lesson. Students will play through additional examples of Stick Control, learn about drum fills and how to apply them on the drum set, and play through the Part 3 of Basic Drum Grooves. Finally, students will learn how to speed up drum grooves and play "Billie Jean"

Learning Needs
This class uses the following accommodations for learners with unique learning needs: Visual aids(large notation and learning handouts), flexible pacing(examples for extra practice) as well as auditory, visual, and kinesthetic methods.

The student will need no previous experience

The student will need: -1 pair of drum sticks (Vic Firth 5A is recommended) -A drum set of your choice (acoustic or electric)

I received my bachelor degrees in Music Education as well as Percussion Performance in 2019. I have been teaching students privately, in small groups, and large groups for over 10 years. I am a regular performer in various bands in my local area, spent 7 years in The 122nd Army Band and have performed thousands of times over my 20 year span as a musician.
