Description
Class Experience
Taking this four session class is a perfect way to get a taste of the sport of agility and the training required. All of the exercises require no equipment, or equipment you can easily find at home. These exercises are beneficial for anyone wanting to start doing agility, or for anyone who wants to spend more time and strengthen the bond with their dog. In addition to the many exercises that the students will learn and practice with their dog, they will also be introduced to the sport of dog...
Students will bond with their dog through multiple exercises and trick learning. The exercises are also useful for day-to-day activities and making your dog more safe and responsive. Students will also improve their understanding of the sport of dog agility.
I train two miniature poodles in obedience, trick learning, recall training, and the sport of dog agility. Both my dogs compete in the sport of agility.
For maximum success, students should take 5-10 minutes daily to practice the exercises learned in this class.
- A dog! Age doesn’t matter. A dog can always learn new things. - Yummy treats! I typically use high-value treats like cheese, hot dogs, freeze-dried meats, cooked chicken, etc. - Their favorite toy(s). - A box, about the size of the dog. - A jump. It could made out of a broomstick, or in my case, a hockey stick! - A leash (optional). 6 feet is typical. - A fun positive attitude! Dogs can sometimes be frustrating to work with. This makes success even more rewarding in the end!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students must post videos of their training progress (1-2 minutes each exercise) for review. I will review the videos and give feedback on how to proceed next in their training. Each student and dog will advance at different speeds and levels, and that is absolutely normal. Assessment is more so based on how the exercise is implemented and completed, than the actual results. Technique is key!
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
An adult should be around during dog training to supervise. This keeps the student and the dog safe.
