Beginner Cheer Dance With K Pop

Students will learn beginner cheer arm motions & dances with a fun K-pop twist! We will even name our team! The class coaching style is supportive, motivational and fun to foster belief in ones self, confidence to try new things!

Beginner Level
Hey there, future cheer superstars! 🌟 Join me, Coach Michele Smits, for an action-packed, super fun beginner cheer and dance class with a K-pop twist! This 40-minute, 4 week adventure is perfect for kids ages 8-12 who want to learn want to be a part of a team and learn cheerleading or new moves, make friends, and have a blast! Without even realizing it students will sharpen motor skills, learn muscle control, work on memorization, precision of body movements, performance, teamwork and belief in themselves and others. 

Arm motion skills will be built upon weekly and there will be a new dance learned for the first 3 weeks. Week #4 will be our performance day with class awards! 

This class meets once a week there are 4 classes in this course. Please refer to the sections for availability. 
Here's what we'll be doing each class:

Week #1-Welcome! Focus is on arm motion "High V, Low V", both swinging & punching. We will name our team & learn a dance to K-Pop music!

Week #2-  Focus will be on arm motion "T" and "Broken T", both swinging & punching. Learn a new dance routine to K-Pop music. Review of previous week's arm motions during arm motion drills and dance routine.

Week #3- Focus will be on arm motion "Right & Left L", both swinging & punching. Learn a new dance routine to K-Pop music. Review of previous week's arm motions during arm motion drills and review of dance routines.

Week #4-Focus will be on review & performance putting arm motions all together and final class performance of all routines with class awards. Review of previous week's arm motions during arm motion drills.

Warm-Ups (5 minutes): Get those muscles ready to move!
Arm Motion Drills (5 minutes): Perfect those cheer motions!
Dance Time (20 minutes): Learn an awesome beginning cheer dance to K-pop music that'll have you feeling like a star! 
Review and Team Talk (10 minutes): Recap the moves, cheer each other on, and build team spirit!

Learning Goals
Students will learn basic cheerleading arm motions as well as the proper execution focusing on tightness and precision. Students will build on the learning of their arm motions with arm motion drills to help with mastery. Students will also learn 3 dance routines and how to perform as a cheerleader. These actions will work on memorization, motor skills, muscle control, precision, confidence and belief in ones self and their team.

Parental Guidance
Our cheerleading class will be a lot of fun. We will warm up in the class, however if your child needs more of a warm up and cool down, please go ahead and do so before and after class. Have a water bottle ready to use during class. If we are doing floor work, if you have a mat or a softer surface if we should go down on our knees it can be helpful. Be in an environment where you can move safely and feel comfortable doing so.
Supply List
An environment to move around in safely. A mat or soft area if we should get on our knees or sit. Water bottle filled with water to drink during class. Something to put your hair up if you would like.

I have coached and prepared children of all ages and levels for competitions and performances on teams I have coached, in cheerleading camps, open gyms and tryouts as well as judged many competitive cheerleading competitions. I am certified in the state of New York by the New York State Department of Education to coach competitive cheerleading.
