This camp is for participants that have never played Hero Kids before and want to learn while playing! Hero Kids is similar to Dungeons and Dragons but it is tailor-made for children ages 6-10. Before the first meeting, participants should look at the Hero Cards PDF and claim a character by messaging me about which character they've chosen. This will guarantee we don't have any repeat characters. Day One: The class will begin with a quick introduction and a brief explanation of classroom expectations (3 minutes). We will start by exploring the Brecken Vale, the land where the Hero Kids live in a town called Rivenshore (2 minutes). Heroes (the characters we play with) will be introduced and students will get to look at the Hero cards and chose one that they like! When you enroll, you will have access to the Hero cards. If the student wants to, he or she can choose a character ahead of time and print their Hero card. We will discuss all the elements on the Hero cards (10 minutes). When everyone is ready, we will play a quick adventure at a slow pace to get the gist of how the game is played. We will have a skirmish (fight against monsters) and if there is time, we will delve into a problem that requires teamwork. (25 minutes). We will have 5 minutes of wrap up where students can ask questions and comment on their experience! (5 minutes) Days Two and Three: We will begin with hellos and expectations. The Curse of the Shadow Walkers is a Hero Kids role-playing game created by Justin Halliday. There are 5 different monster encounters during this adventure and they will be split between two 45 minute sessions. Participants will be required to work together to battle wolves, spiders, and some other creepy creatures in the search for the secret to lifting the curse! Can they work together and reverse the curse!? There will also be some minor riddle and puzzle-solving. When the adventure is complete, we will wrap up and talk about the adventure! A special thank you goes out to Justin Halliday for permission to use Hero Kids on Outschool's platform. Purchasing the game is NOT needed for this camp but if you want to purchase Hero Kids to play at home, you can do so at drivethrurpg.com.
