1 hour per week. Homework is practice the major two steps to one of the following songs - "Don't Sweat the Technique" by Eric B. & Rakim - "Squeeze Me" by Kraak & SmaakAssessment
Learner progress is assessed by how well they demonstrate the steps and combine them without pause.Class Experience
In this class, students will learn the beginning steps of breakdancing. To maximize our time, in between learning and practicing dance steps I will be teaching mini lessons as we catch our breath and drink water. My dance teaching theory is "While the body rests, the mind is still at work." Students will get a chance to explore new movements gradually as the teacher breaks down the elements of each step. READ THIS -> This introduction class will only cover "toprock," or the part of breakdance before your hands touch the floor. As such, these moves can be performed on any floor anywhere! Class begins with a warm-up and ends with a final challenge that puts together everything we learned in class. The goal is for students to build confidence in themselves and the new moves they learned. NOTE: This is an intro class for new students, NOT a continuation of a former class by me. If you already took this class do not sign up for the same class again. Feel free to message me for the next step after this class. NOTE: Please reach out to me before signing up a student outside of the age range. NOTE: If your learner has prior breakdance experience, reach out to me about a FREE consultation to place your learner in the proper level dance camp to continue what they know.
Learning Goals
By the end of class students will be able to
- Confidently perform three signature poses
- Link together two different dance steps
- Adapt more comfortably in a dance setting
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Music is a mix of hip-hop and funk, but has been screened for appropriate lyrics.
It is also advisable that students should wear comfortable shoes (sneakers) and clothes for dancing (not oversized). As well, students should have a clear open space for dancing and a distance from the computer that allows me to see them from head to toe in order to ensure they're doing the moves properly. A water bottle is also required for brief breaks.
Supply List
Students will need - a comfortable pair of shoes (sneakers preferred) - clothes they can move in (no over-sized clothing, no skirts) - Water - Distance from the camera to see students head to toe
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I traveled around the world (30+ countries) while teaching and learning from the local dancers. Also, I was mentored by a world renown breakdancer while living in Korea for three years. This mentorship mixed with my experience and personal training has made me particularly knowledgeable and skilled in the topic.
