Beginner Ballet for Teens!

A lot of beginner level classes in Ballet are aimed toward the young child, and don't give opportunities for teenagers to begin. That ends today! Learn the basics of Ballet, in an age appropriate class.

What's included

1 live meeting
1 in-class hours per week
Homework
1-2 hours per week. There will be very little homework. On occasion there is some independent research I will recommend for further knowledge and insight into the dance world. The main homework will be to practice and review what we did in class to improve flexibility and strength.
Assessment
The learner is assessed every 10 weeks with a written report. It outlines everything they have done, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and if they should move to a higher level class.

Class Experience

This is an Intro to Ballet class. The students will learn basic Ballet vocabulary and steps.

1. We start at the Barre (At home a chair or something you can use to balance)
- At the barre we learn the 5 ballet positions.
-Tendu's and degages
-Rond de Jambes
- Frappes
-Grand Battements
-Stretch

2. The second half of class is focused on three parts
-Adagio: Slow movements to build strength and presentation
-Petit Allegro: Quick small jumps that focus on technique and endurance.
-Across the Floor: Movements consisting of large jumps and turns.

Students will learn the basic steps in the first few lessons. As time continues, we begin to build off those basics and continue to increase additional steps and more challenges to the choreography.

I am a teacher that teaches strong technique, but I do it in a fun way. I find Ballet can be intimidating, especially if you're starting out as a teenager. I do my best to emphasize the importance of great technique, but I want the dancer to also find their own passion for dance, and to enjoy doing it! I strongly encourage questions, and the students can interact with me as much as they need throughout the lesson. I will incorporate projects into the lesson to help the students become comfortable with one another, and gain self-confidence throughout the weeks.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the fundamentals of Ballet. This will include the 5 positions and the 8 directions of the body. It will also include the basic Ballet vocabulary that assists with balance and alignment. They will understand the importance of their core, as well as how to properly execute a port de bras. We are working towards being comfortable executing proper turns by the end of the sessions.
