Basic, pre-algebra topics will be taught such as variables. The class will structured with an introduction first to ascertain what everyone's current understanding of algebra is. Second, there will be a short lecture time with some examples. Third, the students will be given problems as a group to solve and discuss. Next, the students will be given some problems to solve individually which will also serve as basis for the assessment. Lastly, we will summarize what we learned in a...
Students will learn what a variable is. Students will learn what types of questions/problems may require the use of a variable. Students will convert the word sentence into a number sentence to solve the problem. They will also learn how to solve the number sentences that they create. Students will gain problem-solving skills and skills necessary to further their math studies.
I also teach algebra courses at a local private college and tutor K through 12 students in a one-on-one setting in mathematics.
Paper and pencil or a whiteboard.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner will be assessed through questions at the end of class and a written report will be given that details the student's level of understanding of the topic.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
