Description

Class Experience

In addition to building confidence in their own learning process and learning to enjoy music in a community setting, students will learn all the parts of a ukulele, and will also learn four chords and two strumming patterns. They will have the opportunity to learn 2 songs with the chords they have learned. I encourage students to be patient with themselves and enjoy the learning process and continue to seek out learning opportunities beyond this class.
Between each class meeting, students should set aside 10 minutes each day to practice skills learned in class to improve the skills they have learned and to build muscle memory. The more they practice playing chords and strumming, the easier it will become and the more naturally their fingers will find the placement for each chord. There will be no assignment after the fourth week's class.
1. Ukulele in good condition. Teacher recommendation: Kala brand ukulele in Soprano size for smaller hands. Find on Amazon for around $60. 2. Ukulele tuner or tuner app. Teacher recommendation: Snark clip-on tuner for ukuele. Find on Amazon for around $11. Another tuner option: https://ukebuddy.com/ukulele-tuner 3. Printed files provided by teacher.
At the end of the fourth week's class, students will have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned by playing a song they have learned or playing chords and strumming patterns they have learned in class.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Younger ukulele learners with smaller hands and fingers may have less developed fine motor control and may need assistance and encouragement from parents or adults in learning to place their fingers on the correct strings and frets to play the chords properly. Muscle memory builds over time and can take practice, so encourage students to keep practicing every day.
