Begin to communicate with American Sign Language ( ASL)

In this 8 week online course students will meet for 30 minutes each class section to learn and practice using American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate.
Week 1- Introduction to ASL. Students will be introduced to the language American Sign Language and students will learn how to introduce themselves in ASL. Students will learn the ASL Alphabet with an Animal Alphabet. We will learn about fingerspelling and practice fingerspelling. We will play a fingerspelling game. 
Week 2 - We will practice numbers in ASL 1-20. We will practice everyday phrases in ASL. 
Week 3- We will practice signs for feelings, days of the week, weather and opposites. We will play a game to review signs taught.
Week 4- We will practice signs for colors and signs for fruits. We will practice a signing chat including the color and fruit signs taught. 
Week 5- We will practice signs for foods and drinks. We will practice a signing chat to sign about foods we eat at different times of the days and to sign a favorite food and drink. 
Week 6- We will practice signs for family and friends. We will tell a short story in ASL about who is in our family and one thing that you like to do together with family and friends. 
Week 7- We will practice signs for around the home and at school. We will learn basic vocabulary for objects and activities at school and at home. 
Week 8- The final class will be working on signing an All about Me using previous vocabulary learned. Students will pick 5-10 things to share about themselves using ASL.
