In this 2-day 3D design introductory lab, we will use Tinkercad, an online design platform, to explore 3D design. The student will create a design of there own while practicing the following concepts: - Change the size and shape of an object - Change where the object is in space - Pan and Zooming - Change perspectives - Rotate objects - Grouping objects - Freehand modeling - "Cutting" holes in objects to make new shapes - how to export a design to a 3D Printer The first day we will cover many of the topics as the students design something of their own, and may continue to design after class. The student will be encouraged in their creativity along the way, and will have a chance to share their designs in class on day 2 if they wish. Your student does not need to have a Tinkercad account prior to the class. We will be using the Tinkercad Classroom feature, and you will receive a classroom code to log in before the first class meeting posted in the Outschool classroom.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a working knowledge of 3D modeling software and create in the design space something that they may export to a 3D printer of their choice.
