Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
What will be taught?
There are 15 classes for this level to teach Mandarin Chinese. The first 14 classes are for teaching followed by a final class on reviewing previous content and assessment.

What topics will you cover?
Please see the syllabus to find the topics covered.

How is your class structured?
Each class includes
(1) Preclass challenge - student receives a creative challenge relating to the learning topic,
(2) Online live class - a highly interactive, conversation-based class,
(3) Postclass fun time - student receives flashcards and a bilingual rap song to review the learning topic.

How will you teach?
We use a creative assignment, such as "create a restaurant menu", to inspire the kids before the class.
During class, we use slides and various learning activities (100 choices) to practice learning.
After the class, we send flashcards and rap songs to help kids review their learning.

What's your teaching style?
(1) Our education philosophy is based on Shin'ichi Suzuki's 'Nurtured by Love' approach, providing a safe and loving learning environment. Our language teaching is founded on constructivist "Lego-building" pedagogy.
(2) Our class learning design is based on thousands of hours teaching kids the Chinese language and more than 100 learning activities.
(3) We provide after-class coloring and rap song-listening exercises.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
(1) We do 'show and tell' to introduce our creative assignments.
(2) We do lecturers to cover the learning content during class, followed by various learning activities to practice learning.
(3) We provide a class summary of each class to record learning progress.
(4) We offer after-class fun time materials for learners to review learning at their own pace afterward.

Welcome to Creative Chinese Club!

As a bilingual (English and Mandarin/Cantonese Chinese) learning designer, I combine my experience in online learning, foreign language acquisition, and cultural tourism to make learning Chinese fun, energetic and productive.

As a native Chinese speaker living in Europe, my first overseas internship was working as a summer camp counselor in New York State, USA. The experience to design and teach extra-curriculum activities for children in a cross-cultural environment was life-altering. It planted the seed for my passion in education.

After getting my MBA degree from Cambridge University, I didn’t go back to the management consulting industry where I had worked. Instead, I entered the online education industry. During my spare time, I completed a master’s degree in education technology from the University of British Columbia. My expertise is to design social learning and collaborative learning online.

While working with online language teachers to reach and teach cross-cultural students, I became fascinated with how children acquire a foreign language. My Outschool classes adopt some of the greatest concepts in language acquisition such as Pimsleur language learning methods.

Due to my hobby in cultural tourism, I organize interactive cultural storytelling experiences for families around the world (in-person and online). ‘Travelling’ together to seven continents (including Antarctica) constantly encourages me to explore new ways of learning and teaching. I am employing some of the tested methods (sensory learning, learning through magic) in my classes. As I believe, the best way to teach is to make children intrigued, interested, engaged, and invested in their learning journey.

Last but only least, I love feedback from my students and from my parents. That is the best way I can learn how I can support your children best.
