Class Experience

Throughout the course the student will be assigned a variety of tasks that will require creating a visual image using various artistic techniques and/or using the conventions writing to respond to weekly prompts. 

Purpose: The purpose of a creative journaling course is to allow visual learners to “see” written assignments from a more visual perspective. 

Instruction: Each week the student will receive a prompt to be added to his/her journal.  Each entry will include an ORIGINAL TITLE and the DATE the assignment was completed. Each week students will present their work to the class. At the end of the course, students will submit 5 selections in a portfolio. 

Evaluation: Student journal entries will be evaluated on the basis of completion, appropriateness, thoughtfulness, content, idea development,  and organization.

VISUAL Requirements
Create visual images, using a variety of mediums, for each of the subjects listed below. You may select the subjects in any order, as long as each subject is represented in the final portfolio.  You may use any variety of mediums to create your artwork, however, the final portfolio must have the seven criteria listed here.  
1.	At least one page incorporating written words into a visual image
2.	At least one page without any written words 
3.	At least one-page using mixed media 
4.	At least one page about your culture/heritage/nationality
5.	At least one page about your hopes, dreams and/or goals 
6.	At least one page dedicated to a self-portrait 
7.	 Several pages incorporating imagery 	WRITTEN Requirements

Every visual artifact must have a written component included. The written piece may be an explanation of the artwork, an opinion about the artwork, a statement about what inspired the artwork, etc. Each written piece must be on the alternate page of the visual work or incorporated into the work.

Parental Guidance
This course has no prerequisite art or writing experience.
Supply List
Students are required to provide a sketchbook or unlined journal, writing paper or lined journal, colored pencils, paints, etc. to complete the assignments.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
