Class Experience: In this student driven class, students will learn advanced settings in the Streamlabs OBS program to enhance their previously built streaming set up! Teachers will troubleshoot difficulties students have had with their streaming setups if necessary as well as helping students to add “flair” to their scenes. Playful Digital Learning consists of people with a passion for teaching, gaming, and technology. We strive to inspire creativity, model reflection, and empower students to learn through play. Our teachers often have experience teaching both in person and online. The founder of Playful Digital Learning, Yoonhee Lee, has done extensive research on game-based literacy learning. She has a variety of teaching experience in K-12 and adult contexts in Korea and the US. Her research topic is focusing on gaming and learning. Lead Teacher, Jessica Kelleher, has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Special Education with over a decade of experience in the classroom. She is currently pursuing a masters in Information Science and has been a Twitch Affiliate variety streamer for over a year.

Streamlabs OBS (https://streamlabs.com/) needs to be set up and connected to the student’s Youtube/Twitch account prior to the class. They will also need a microphone and a camera for video communication. They must also have a decent computer and internet connection. Please note that footage quality may vary depending on your computer specifications, even with the optimization techniques taught in class. We recommend using a strong desktop PC or high-end laptop if possible. Tablets are not recommended for this set up.

Streamlabs and many streaming websites require parental supervision and permission for children between the ages of 13 and 18. Please keep in mind that streaming is often public. Students will not be streaming in the class, but they could use these skills to stream to anyone.
