Class Experience

In this class, students will learn how to use the program Streamlabs OBS to record or live stream their computer games! Using free themes included in Streamlabs, they will learn how to use a stream key and save a recording on their computer. Students can create and modify their own stream set-up, including where to put their face camera if they have one, game, and various alerts such as followers or subscribers. They will even learn how to optimize their footage as best as possible for their own computer. They do not need to have any prior knowledge of streaming or recording -- just download Streamlabs OBS and get ready to learn! Students should use Streamlab on the computer: laptops, desktops, IBM, Mac, not on tablets or Chromebooks.
Here is the link for the download Streamlabs https://streamlabs.com/ before the class.

The teacher will wait up to 15 minutes for students to arrive. If students do not show up within that time and haven’t provided advance notice, the session will not be rescheduled.
Learning Goals
Introduce OBS/Streamlabs - Choose a theme and add a stream key
Set up a Live Scene - Customize/finalize their scene as they want
Optimize footage and audio - Test stream or recording!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Streamlabs and many streaming websites require parental supervision and permission for children between the ages of 13 and 18. Please keep in mind that streaming is often public. Students will not be streaming in the class, but they could use these skills to stream to anyone.
Supply List
Parents will need to download Streamlabs OBS (https://streamlabs.com/) prior to the class. They will also need a microphone and a camera for video communication. They must also have a decent computer and internet connection.

Please note that footage quality may vary depending on your computer specifications, even with the optimization techniques taught in class. We recommend using a strong desktop PC or high-end laptop if possible.
