Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here! ✨ New to Outschool? Use code RHOWE20 to save $20 on this class! ✨ ✨ In this class we will be making HEDWIG the owl!!! This is a recorded version of my very popular live digital illustration class. We will use the app Procreate to follow along step-by-step to draw and paint from a reference photo! ✨ This class is designed to get students thinking through how to see like an artist, breaking down the reference into basic shapes and lines, then adding detail, nuance and style. ✨ This class is beginner to intermediate, which means beginners can follow along step-by-step, pausing when you need to, and if you have some practice at Procreate already you will be able to get more customized and detailed with my prompts! ✨ This class contains 9 videos! ✨ I like to show students different styles and choices you can make from topic-to-topic, so if you eventually take all of my classes, overtime you will have lots of practice and a wide knowledge base for what is possible, so you can learn to find, invent and incorporate styles that YOU love! ✨ I LOVE collaborating with students! Send me your topic requests and maybe I can make a class for it! ✨ While this class is listed for kids ages 10-14, I believe it will still be a great fit for kids younger who are motivated and can follow new and somewhat complex steps at their own pace. I also think this class is a great fit for kids older than 14 who may be new or somewhat new to Procreate, or need extra time to move through material. You can move as fast as you want or need, and I never talk down to my students so older students will feel good taking my courses!! 👉🏼 The app Procreate can be purchased for about $10 from the Apple Store. Unfortunately, Procreate is not available on Android tablets. 👉🏼 Although this class is for the app Procreate, if you are comfortable with a different art app and are willing to find equivalent tools on your own, you can still take this course: We do a lot of building observational, drawing and painting skills that can apply to many mediums!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to use Procreate to illustrate basic drawings after this class!

Learning Needs
All my self-paced classes are chunked in small videos so that learners have natural breaks built into their learning experience.
Parental Guidance
In this class we use the professional digital art-making app called Procreate. This app must be used on an IPad (or IPhone as the pocket version), and can be purchased for a one-time fee of about $10 from the app store. No memberships, logins or other in-app purchases are required once you purchase your copy of the app!
Supply List
1) IPad (IPhone with Procreate Pocket app works exactly the same, but will look a bit different because it’s compact.) 2) Apple Pencil or third-party stylus is optional, but a lot easier and more fun to use than your finger. 3) Plug it in and keep it charged! 😉
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Temple University
I am a full-time working artist, illustrator and author. I work from my studio everyday on a variety of projects including fine art paintings, collage and picture books! I am self-taught in fine arts after getting a degree in journalism and working in editing, graphic design and marketing for over a decade. I got into teaching kind of by accident by running workshops and classes for my community and my kids' friends and classes at school, then never stopped because I just love kids, love talking about art, and all the energy and ideas that come from being with other artists like your kids!
