Have you ever wondered about owning your own business? What will you sell? What will you do? Will you own a hair salon or restaurant? Will you own a tech company or sell video games? What about providing a service to those in need? What kind of organization could you create to help others?

In this course, your 14-18 year old will learn how to create a basic business/organization website through the free version of WordPress. (No coding experience is required. This class will not cover coding but basic website page builders.) Your student will learn the importance of website building and how websites help businesses and organizations grow. Students will dream up a business/organization of their choice and use that to build their own fictitious business/organization website. Presentations of these businesses/organizations and their website will be presented in the last class. Teacher feedback on writing as well as web page building will be provided to all students.

Website building is an important entrepreneurship skill. It drives business communication and sales. Websites help customers to know who a business is, what a business does, and why it does it.

What is WordPress?
WordPress is one of the largest used website building platforms that professional website developers use. In my own marketing business, we use WordPress to build websites for business and organizations. WordPress is an easy to use platform that requires very little coding knowledge. Students in this course will not need to know coding to build their own website. Students may learn a few basic coding techniques.

During class, students will set up a free WordPress account to create their own websites. Creation and setup of WordPress will be taught in this course.

What’s your teaching style and how will you teach?
I like to have fun in my classes. I am thorough in execution but joyful in presentation. I do expect students to follow instruction and do the assignments, and I welcome every question a student may ask. I will use slides to help present my lessons and hands-on work to engage student learning. I love having students bring in their own learning styles and ways of participation. Since this is a small class, I do expect to interact with all students. I want to learn about my students and what they are experienced in.
