5 live meetings
3 hrs 20 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students who love creative writing and developing stories will truly enjoy this class! We will spend 5 weeks completing the full writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. The students will dive into character development, using descriptive words, and captivating their readers with details and plot. The class will culminate with the students designing their own books on Book Creator to be shared with their classmates and their family and friends. The books they design can even be printed and published! While each meeting will have built-in time for free-writing and other creative writing exercises, there will be specific tasks that are focused on each week. Week 1: Brainstorming, Idea Curating, and Story Outlines Week 2: Creating the First Draft Week 3: Revising, Editing, and Proofreading Week 4: Creating Our Books with Book Creator Week 5: Finishing Our Books with Book Creator & Sharing! I will teach the students by modeling the weekly skills and working with the students to meet them where they are. I will gently reinforce correct grammar, spelling, and other language mechanics, but the emphasis of the class will be on the creative writing process and fostering a love of writing. Perfection is not the goal. The students will interact with me through ice breakers, games, and discussion, and they will interact with each other by having opportunities to share ideas and provide feedback on each other's stories. The book each student creates will be stored in our class Book Creator library for all to enjoy!
Learning Goals
The students will first and foremost continue to develop a love of creative writing and self-expression!
The students will also work on their knowledge of the 6 traits of writing and the full writing process from idea to completion.
The students will take pride in their work and help provide constructive and positive feedback to their peers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I am so excited to be teaching through Outschool! I enjoy teaching a variety of ages, as I have both preschool and elementary teaching experience. I like to find ways for students to learn and connect through their unique interests. I want learning to be a fun adventure, which is why you will see that my first class I created is the Unicorn Care Academy!
I received my degree in elementary education in 2007, and I taught fourth grade for six years. After that, I taught pre-K part time for three years so that I could have more time to be home with my children. I am now a mother of five (5!) kiddos ages 10 to 1 year, so I haven't been able to return to the classroom. I am so excited that Outschool has afforded me the opportunity to teach again AND be home with my younger children full-time.
Other than teaching and my family, I love donuts, Diet Coke, and Disney World. I can't wait to plan our next family trip.
I sincerely look forward to teaching your child!
