Description

Class Experience

Depending on your learners' needs, a single class might involve:
- targeted word study (beyond simple phonics),
- targeted vocabulary study,
- reading fluency practice,
- reading comprehension tasks,
- listening comprehension tasks,
- writing organization,
- spelling strategies and activities
- grammar study.
Homework will vary, but will usually be less than 30 minutes per day between classes.
Learners will need: - small dry erase board or chalkboard with markers/chalk - small index cards (many and ongoing) - their own copy of any book we decide to read together or their own subscription to a program like EPIC or Amazon Kindle Unlimited (for learners that have reached a chapter book level of reading)
Assessment will be informal and ongoing.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Since I will base reading selections on your learner's interest, please let me know if you have any guidelines on the type of literature to be read. If a book is selected that has any sensitive topics or language, I will request specific permission from parents before their learner begins that book.
I have a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Literacy. This degree is a Reading Specialist degree program.

About Me

What kind of teacher am I?

I believe in meaningful, student-led education. Learning is fun when it has meaning to YOU. Children are wired to learn. They are constantly trying to figure out the world around them. I view my role as that of a guide...
