Polar bears have blubber to keep them warm in the cold climate they live in. We will literally have a “hands on” experiment where the student makes a blubber glove and put their hand in ice water! Having an interactive experience will help them grasp concepts easier and it will be a lot of fun! As they imagine they are a polar bear while they dip their hand in the icy water. Questions will be asked, predictions will be made, and students will interact with each other as they learn about polar bears. Needed: Crisco shortening (or generic) 2 gallon sized ziploc baggies Bowl Ice water We will have an interactive discussion about polar bears and blubber. Students will make predictions and observations of what will happen when they wear their blubber glove. This memorable experiment will help them grasp the concepts behind blubber and warmth.
