Calling all super summarizers! In this ongoing course, students will read a nonfiction text and then work to write a paragraph-long summary of the text. When summarizing nonfiction, it is important to determine the most important details of the text, and ultimately figure out the main idea. Together, we will talk about the differences between summarizing a fiction story and a nonfiction text. Then, we will work together to determine the most important information in the text. Hello! My name is Jessica McGinn and I am so excited to meet your child! I graduated in 2008 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and I hold an Elementary Ed teaching certificate in the state of Florida. I have 10 years of experience as a classroom teacher, where I have taught first through fourth grade. I have also taught English online to children age 4 to 14! I am passionate about teaching and about learning, and I especially love to teach reading!
I believe that all children CAN love to read. Some just haven’t found the right book yet! I hope to inspire children to want to read more, all while teaching them important reading comprehension and writing skills.
