Become a Chess Pro: Intro for Beginners (Ages 5-10)
Class experience
This class is for young learners with little or no exposure to chess. We'll start by teaching the foundational basics of the game, and then build upon that foundation to introduce key strategies for winning games. Each week's lesson starts with about 30 minutes of explanation and discussion, followed by, for the remaining duration of each class, virtual chess games between the classmates, supervised by the instructor. By the end of this course, students will have a thorough foundational understanding of the game of chess, how to plan ahead, and how to win against their peers. They will also leave with a basic understanding of how competitive chess tournaments are structured, and will feel prepared to compete against peers of their age and skill levels.

All students who complete the course will be sent a certificate of completion as well as award ribbons conferred for their placement in the in-class tournament. Report cards will also be made available to parents by request, at any time during or at the end of the semester, detailing their child's progress.Grades Offered
