Description
Class Experience
By the end of this course, students will have a competitive edge in the game of chess, with a greater understanding of the game and greater confidence in themselves than they began with. They will also leave with a better understanding of how competitive chess tournaments are structured, and will feel prepared to compete and win against peers of their age and skill levels.
No homework will be assigned, but students are encouraged to practice what they've learned against family and friends, at home or online, between classes.
Students will practice chess against each other on Chess.org (as guests, no login or personal information required).
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
All students who complete the course will be sent a certificate of completion as well as award ribbons conferred for their placement in the in-class tournament. Report cards will also be made available to parents by request, at any time during or at the end of the semester, detailing their child's progress.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
