Class Experience

This is a versatile and challenging training course for the aspiring musical theatre performer. Each meeting will focus on training students in one skill set. A typical meeting could be a technical voice lesson, an interactive and challenging acting class, a beginner dance class, audition preparation or a mock audition day. All the meetings work together to provide foundational, yet challenging techniques that set the student on a path to becoming a confident stage performer.

Below is a link to my performance reel, if you would like to get a glimpse of my personal stage experience:

Week 1

Day 1: Intro to Acting - Students will learn various acting techniques and ways to approach acting through fun, interactive games.

Day 2: Voice Technique - This lesson will provide a strong foundation for professional training of the voice. Students will be taught how to healthily warm up their voices on a daily basis, for the purpose of developing range, power and clarity of tone.

Week 2

Day 3: Musical Theatre Dance - We will begin with a thorough warm up and then learn a contemporary combination to “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman. This is an open level dance class but geared towards the beginner.

Day 4: Intro to Acting - This class will offer insight into how to approach improv acting. Students will then get a chance to step out of their comfort zones through several improv games.

Week 3

Day 5: Voice Technique - We will dive deeper into healthy vocal technique with an introduction into vocal resonation. Individual song assignments will be given to each student after this lesson, which they will memorize for a mock audition later on in the course.

Day 6: Musical Theatre Dance - Students will learn basic tap steps and will be taught a beginner tap combo!

Week 4

Day 7: Audition Prep - This day is all about the audition process! What does an audition consist of? How should one prepare? What do I bring? What will turn the eye of a casting director? What should I not do in the audition room? What should I wear? All these questions and more will be discussed in detail.

Day 8: Acting Class - We will dive deeper into acting techniques that relate to character development, motivation and emotional expression.

Week 5

Day 9: Musical Theatre Dance - Learn an energetic theater dance combination to "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid.

Day 10: Discussion Day - The students will engage in an interactive discussion devoted to the topic of stage presence. What makes a performer shine and stand out like a star! Are some just born with it or can we cultivate these special qualities within ourselves? The rest of class will be an open floor Q+A on the musical theatre hobby/career.

Week 6

Day 11: Singing Mock Audition - It's mock audition day! I will work individually with each student on the storytelling and performance of their assigned audition cut. I believe in positive constructive feedback and peer observation and support. I endeavor to create a highly encouraging and comfortable environment for the student to challenge themselves, make mistakes, get up and try again and walk away feeling empowered to continue their growth. I aim to help them thrive, wherever they are at in their training.

Day 12: Acting Mock Audition - The students will perform and workshop their individual monologues with me. I will work one on one with each student to help inspire clarity and confidence within their acting choices.
Learning Goals
To grow in stage presence, confidence and ability! To gain exposure to techniques that will help the student train in the three most prominent musical theater skills.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Please provide ample water for the student during each class as we will be dancing and singing a lot. They will need to stay hydrated! I also highly recommend they begin to hydrate one hour before each class, to start preparing the vocal chords for singing. Dance shoes are not required, but they are welcomed if you have them! All that is necessary is a small space, clear from clutter.
Supply List
A thin black binder and clear sheets designed to hold sheet music. You won’t need this for class. This is so you can prepare your “audition book”, full of audition ready songs!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Florida
Some days will consist of dancing and yoga. I am qualified to teach in both areas.

I attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Florida. This program provided intensive dance training. I previously trained at various studios ever since I was a little girl. I am fully capable of leading a well rounded and safe dance class and will always do a thorough warm up to protect the students from injuries.

I also received my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification from One Yoga in Kho Pha-ngan, Thailand. Yoga has always been a huge benefit to me as a performer, which is why I am excited to incorporate that knowledge into this theater intensive course.
