Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this class, students will read 3 chapters of Because of Winn-Dixie each week. Because of Winn-Dixie is a beautifully written story by Kate DiCamillo. This is a Newberry Award-winning story sure to capture your student's heart! In the story, a young girl, Opal moves to a new town and befriends a dog she names Winn-Dixie. She learns that friendship and forgiveness can sneak up on you when you least expect it!

While reading the story, we will complete a project each week along with the reading. The projects will sometimes be completed in class, and bigger projects may need work to be completed prior to or after class. The students will be asked to write in a journal for each class. They can keep a notebook or a binder for this class to help them be organized. This will also help them to have an amazing resource to look back on and to help them feel proud of the work they've accomplished before, during, and after class!

The class schedule is:

Week 1 1/13- students will complete an art and writing project.
Week 2 1/20- students will complete a writing project about a grown-up in their life and a second writing project about the rules in their lives.
Week 3 1/27- students will complete a math lesson focusing on consumer math.
Week 4 2/3- students will write about what scared Winn-Dixie, what scares them and how they cope and overcome fear.
Week 5 2/10- students will write about bullying behavior
Week 6 2/17- students will complete an art project and learn about the civil war
Week 7 2/24- students will party plan and create an art project
Week 8 3/2- students will explore the emotions of the characters throughout the climax of the story
Week 9 3/9- students will discuss the end of the story and write an alternate ending.

I look forward to seeing your learner grow and explore the world around them in this class.

Hello! My name is Stacey and I am a homeschooling mom of 4. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. I have seven years of online teaching experience teaching children online. I also have 15 years of experience counseling children and their families to cope with big feelings and helping them increase their communication skills. I also currently run 2 companies!

I became a homeschooling Mom to 3 of my 4 children in 2018 when my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. The school he attended was not able to teach him to read so I learned how to teach reading to him using Orton Gillingham techniques and curriculum. I have since taught many children to read by using movement, activities, and lots of fun! Learning to teach children to read has become one of my passions in life!

I believe that children learn best when they feel cared for and are having fun! When older children understand how the curriculum will help them in their everyday lives they are more likely to retain the information and become a partner in their own learning. This makes learning so much more interesting for the student. It's our job as parents and teachers to help your child understand how the topics they learn will help them today and in their future!

My other passion in life includes teaching students about personal finance. This is something I've been interested in since I was a teenager, and I hope to be able to teach as many students as possible about how to build wealth through budgeting and being mindful of their income and expenses. I am excited to share this knowledge with your students!

When I'm not in the classroom, I can usually be found reading a great book or lounging in my pool or on the beach. I live in sunny FL, about 10 minutes from the beach and we enjoy going often. So if you see me in class with a sunburned face, you know why!

I look forward to partnering with you to teach your child something new and amazing! Thank you for the honor of being your child's teacher. I don't take this responsibility lightly. See you in the classroom!
