I have been an English teacher for twenty years. Writing is my absolute favorite subject to teach, because it's beautiful to watch students create a beautiful story that they can be proud of, and possibly publish. In this class, we will use photos to inspire our writing. I will provide the photos to start, and then the students will choose their own photos. I like to foster discussions, and students centered learning. I think that peer conferencing is a great way for students to learn to work...
Students will be able to use photographs to create well organized, powerful stories, with great structure, word choice, excellent plots, and details.
The homework will be writing based. They may complete a draft of a story that they started in class. We will also workshop. I will give feedback, and peer feedback will also be done. The revisions will have a specific purpose for each student. I may challenge the student to change the point of view for the story, for example.
The only assessment will be the final draft that is created by the end of the course.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
