Class Experience

There are approximately 17,500 species of butterflies in the world. In this course, your child will learn about several of these beautiful insects and then have the opportunity to color their own butterfly to share with the class!

Some butterflies we will learn about:
-Ulysses Butterfly
-Glass Wing Butterfly
-Blue Morpho Butterfly
-Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly
-Peacock Butterfly
-Goliath Birdwing Butterfly
-Question Mark Butterfly

Our class will start with student introductions and an informal Q&A to see what the students already know or like about butterflies. I will then introduce each of the different types of butterflies using pictures and video clips. At the end, we will take a fun Butterfly Quiz to see what we've learned! After class, students will have the opportunity to color their very own beautiful butterfly, give it a name, and share it with myself and the other students by uploading it to the classroom. If we have extra time at the end of class, we will start the coloring early.

Students will be required to at least begin class with their cameras on so that I can check attendance and see their faces. If students are more comfortable with having their camera off after introductions, that is fine! This class will be interactive and students will have the opportunity to ask questions and comment on what we learn throughout the class, as well as play an interactive game at the end. Students do not need any prior knowledge about butterflies to attend this class.

Learning Goals

Students will learn about 7 different types of beautiful butterflies from around the world. Students will also practice their conversation and comprehension skills.
