Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
This private lesson will meet once a week. Each week we will focus on a different math concept with fun, competitive games.

I will start with the basics (number bonds to make 10, doubling, greater than/less than, money, addition, subtraction, etc). If your learner is struggling with a certain concept at school, I can try to find a game to corresponds to that unit.

In addition to learning math, they will learn to demonstrate good sportsmanship no matter who wins that week. My one rule is "No Crying" which is hard to do if you are not on the winning team, but such an important skill.

A few days before class a printout or supply list will be provided. Below is the list of the basic items you will need. They are usually items found in your home or easy to get (such as dice, playing cards, coins, etc). The printout can be easily handwritten if you do not have access to a printer. If you do not have a supply, come anyway. You can use my cards or dice as we play on the big screen.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn number recognition, pattern awareness, and practice writing numbers.
They will learn the number bonds to make 10 (2+8, 3+7, etc).
They will learn double numbers (up to double 10).

Learners will take turns to help their team beat the teacher.
They will be good sportsmen no matter if they win or don't win.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have always loved math and working with numbers. My father was a self-proclaimed math magician (a magician who used math as the solution to his magic tricks). He instilled in me a love for numbers and patterns. I hope to help others have the same perspective.

I taught Kindergarten in a private school for 5 years and used manipulatives to help teach math.
