***THIS IS A SELF-PACED CLASS- We will not meet live; however, assignments will be reviewed for teacher feedback on Sunday evenings each week for up to 5 weeks.*** In this 5-lesson, self-paced poetry writing class, we will learn about poetry and how to write 8 different types of poems while catering to each learner's interests (Be You!). Each lesson will include a video explaining the lesson that will be completed in Nearpod. In the lesson there will be videos and mini-assignments the learner will complete that will help support the poems they are working on. Mini-assignments will cover POETRY DEVICES including FIGURATIVE and SENSORY LANGUAGE. Learners will also READ and ANALYZE POEMS for practice, then learn how to WRITE 8 different types of poems. Learners will complete their poems with each lesson on a private Google Slide link or submit their handwritten work to receive written feedback each Sunday evening. 🟡Lesson 1: Acrostics & Haikus🟢 A: Introduction to poetry terms Learning about SIMILES Reading and analyzing poetry Writing ACROSTIC poems B: Learning about METAPHORS Reading and analyzing poetry Writing HAIKU poems 🔵Lesson 2: Limericks & Cinquains🟠 A: Learning about HYPERBOLE Reading and analyzing poetry Writing LIMERICK poems B: Learning about ONOMATOPOEIAS Reading and analyzing poetry Writing CINQUAIN poems 🟣Lesson 3: Concretes & Diamantes🔴 A: Learning about PERSONIFICATION Reading and analyzing poetry Writing CONCRETE poems B: Learning about ALLITERATION Reading and analyzing poetry Writing DIAMANTE poems 🟤Lesson 4: Sonnets & Sensory Poems⚫️ A: Learning about IDIOMS Reading and analyzing poetry Writing SONNET poems B: Learning about SENSORY LANGUAGE Reading and analyzing poetry Writing SENSORY poems (this poem will be a capstone for the course and include all figurative language covered) 📖Lesson 5: Poetry Book📖 Learners will create a digital book compiling all 8 of their poems with pictures using a book creator program, which will be viewable to learners who have also taken the class. These books can be printed into hard copies or shared digitally with family and friends if desired. Each learner will receive a certificate of completion upon completing the final draft and storybook.
