***THIS IS A SELF-PACED CLASS - We will not meet live. Video feedback on writing assignments will be sent on Sunday evenings for up to 4 weeks*** In this 4-lesson class, we will learn how to write personal narratives that are entertaining and engaging. Learners will learn how to turn their experiences into captivating stories rather than just retelling events in order. This style of writing is great practice for memoir writing. The first three lessons will focus on three different writing prompts that are related to a personal experience (for example: write about a time you discovered something new). Learners will learn how to write about these experiences as if they were telling a story rather than retelling events that happened. Learners will brainstorm ideas for their experiences using discussion board submissions with previous and current learners and have interactive lessons on how to use narrative strategies as well as figurative language devices in their independent writing. I will be giving video feedback on the work they submit each Sunday evening. In lesson 4, learners will compile these stories into a creative digital journal to keep and share digitally! Lessons will be completed in Nearpod which will include video lessons, discussion boards, and interactive activities. Independent writing will be completed on Google slides and video feedback from me will be given on Sundays. 🟡Lesson 1: ~ What are personal narratives? ~ Figurative Language Focus: Similes ~ Be Better At: Entertaining Story Beginnings ~ Prompt and example given ~ Independent writing: Organize ideas/Write draft 🟢Lesson 2: ~ Figurative Language Focus: Metaphors ~ Be Better At: Reflective Endings ~ Prompt and example given ~ Independent writing: Organize ideas/Write draft 🔵Lesson 3: ~ Figurative Language Focus: Hyperbole ~ Be Better At: Dialogue Tags ~ Prompt and example given ~ Independent writing: Organize ideas/Write draft 🔴Lesson 4: ~ Reflection of class ~ How to create a digital journal ~ Create journal with final drafts ~ Submission of journal Each learner will receive a certificate of completion upon completing the 3 entries and digital journal.
