Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to the 5 Text Structures + Revising & EditingLearners will learn about the 5 text structures and share interests and passions with peers via discussion board to brainstorm ideas for essay topics. Learners will learn how to revise & edit so they can apply these skills to their essays each week.Week 2Lesson 2Sequence EssayLearners will read examples of sequence essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being better at using transition words. Learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement, then complete their draft of their essay.Week 3Lesson 3Description EssayLearners will read examples of descriptive essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being better at main idea sentences. Learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement, then complete their draft of their essay.Week 4Lesson 4Compare & Contrast EssayLearners will read examples of compare & contrast essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being better at explaining detail sentences. Learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement, then complete their draft of their essay.Week 5Lesson 5Cause & Effect EssayLearners will read examples of cause & effect essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being better at using "Golden Bricks" in detail sentences. Learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement, then complete their draft of their essay.Week 6Lesson 6Problem & Solution EssayLearners will read examples of problem & solution essays and learn how to write an outline of their body paragraphs focusing on being better at concluding sentences. Learners will learn how to write the introduction and conclusion of the essay using a different hook and final statement, then complete their draft of their essay.Week 7Lesson 7Project PresentationLearners will choose a project option to complete based on one (or more than one!) of their essays to share with other learners via a video recording. Project options include a video demonstration of the sequence topic, a presentation of their descriptive topic, a creative Venn diagram of their compare & contrast topic, a video report as a news anchor of their cause & effect topic, or a video interview with themself of their problem & solution topic submitted through FlipGrid
Learners will learn how to write 5 different essays using expository writing strategies.

Homework Offered
Learners will complete the lessons in Nearpod, then complete an essay including prewriting on Google slides. Assignments will take about 1-2 hours each lesson.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
