In this 8-lesson, FLEX/self-paced creative writing course, learners will become better at writing by easily writing a creative narrative as we break down each part of the writing story, then put the story in their own storybook.

***THIS IS A SELF-PACED CLASS- We will not meet live; however, assignments will be reviewed for teacher feedback on Sunday evenings each week for up to 8 weeks.*** In this 8-lesson, self-paced, narrative story writing course, learners will go through each step of the writing process for writing a creative narrative story catering to their interests (Be You!). Week 1Lesson 1Types of Writing and Story PlotLearners will be introduced to the different types of writing and begin brainstorming ideas for their narrative writing story. They will learn about the parts of a story and create a story plot of the events in their story.Week 2Lesson 2Story BeginningsLearners will learn how to write an entertaining beginning that draws the reader in. They will create a beginning for their story.Week 3Lesson 3Descriptive DetailLearners will learn how to use descriptive detail in their writing to allow the reader to experience what the characters are experiencing. They will create a descriptive paragraph for a character, setting, or object in their story.Week 4Lesson 4Building SuspenseLearners will learn how to build suspense in their writing to keep the reader engaged. They will write a paragraph using suspense-building techniques for their story.Week 5Lesson 5Establishing a Main EventLearners will learn how to incorporate description, dialogue, thoughts, and feelings into their writing and "show" instead of "tell." Learners will use these skills to write about the main event in their story.Week 6Lesson 6Story EndingsLearners will learn how to create strong endings that leave the reader satisfied with their story. They will write a paragraph to use as the end of their story.Week 7Lesson 7Revising and EditingLearners will learn how to properly revise and edit. Learners will use this week to complete their rough drafts, adding any parts of their story not yet covered, then revise and edit their draft.Week 8Lesson 8Story PresentationLearners will create a storybook for their story with pictures using a book creator program, which will be viewable to their peers who have also taken the class. These books can be printed into hard copies or shared digitally with family and friends if desired.
Learners will improve their writing skills by completing a creative narrative writing paper.

Homework Offered
Learners will be given various practice assignments each lesson in addition to the part of the paper they are writing.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Learners are given video feedback on their writing at the end of each week.Grades Offered
A private Google Slide link will be sent to the learner to complete assignments. Handouts to print will be sent each lesson if learner prefers to hand write story.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will use a google slide link that they will not need a google account to use. They are able to print handouts and handwrite as an alternative. Nearpod will only need their name to use, no email. Storyjumper accounts are created using class links and created username - no email needed.
