In this eight-week course, students will learn words and their meanings to aid in reading comprehension. We will play Kahoot once a week to check for understanding!

1 hour per week. This course should not require much, if any out-of-class time. The parents will be given a single sheet each lesson of the list of the words. Parents may want to talk about those words with their learner.Assessment
The best evidence of this class will be when the students begin to use on their own, the words we are studying! Students will not be graded with a letter grade. Students will grade their own work during class. Students will have their knowledge checked by an assessment weekly in their student books.Grading

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
I plan to make this class experience a great one by developing a relationship with each child. The students will greatly improve their vocabulary base by learning the vocabulary words from Wordly Wise Book one- Grade one. There are ten words in each of the fifteen lessons in the book. This class will last eight weeks. We will cover the five units in book, having fifteen lessons, in this course. The words will be explained by the teacher, using colorful picture cards for each of the ten words. Each word has a colorful picture card to help students understand the meaning of the word. The teacher and the learners will discuss what the word means and how it relates to them. Practice will be provided by using five approaches: finding the meaning using whatever part of speech, using context clues to find just the right word in the sentence, applying the meaning of the word, using the correct form of the word, then reading a narrative using the ten words in the lesson. Each lesson includes a nonfiction narrative of high interest. My learning style is informal with lots of smiles and student interaction. Multi-day course: Weekly class routine: Four days per week Day One of each lesson: * Discuss each of the first five vocabulary words using the colorful accompanying picture card. * Practice saying the word together. The teacher will show a picture of the word and discuss its part of speech and usage. * Modeling the word in several sentences so students can hear the word using in context. The sentences that use each definition are on a slide. * Complete exercises in the workbook together in class. Day Two of the lesson: Discuss each of the next five vocabulary words using the colorful accompanying picture card. * The reading passage for the week will be reread. Students who are reading might want to read aloud to the class. The topic for the weekly stories is listed below. Students are invited to read aloud or the teacher will read the passage. Each week will follow the same schedule. There are 5 units in the book. This multi-day course will cover all fifteen lessons in the book and last for eight weeks. The reading passages include the following subject matter for the eight weeks: Lesson one: Vacation Time Lesson two: Camping at the Lake Lesson three: A Forest in the Desert Lesson four: What’s Cooking? Lesson five: Building a Tree House Lesson six: A Special Day at the Zoo Lesson seven: Soup of Freedom Lesson eight: Lucky Dragon Lesson nine: The Haft Seen Lesson ten: A Car Wash Adventure Lesson eleven: Welcome, Wheels! Lesson twelve: Up, Up, and Away! Lesson thirteen: Castles in the Sand Lesson fourteen: Go Fly a Kite Lesson fifteen: A Mural of Memories
Learning Goals
During this course, students will gain confidence in their listening speaking, and reading abilities. Students will learn vocabulary words vital to increased growth in their word base. The goal is to internalize these words. Students will be made more aware of the words in their world and be able to add them to their normal spoken and written vocabulary.
