Parental Guidance
Dear Parents, Please be aware that this class will cover the sensitive topic of racism against others based on skin color. This class will not focus on the origin of racism in America, or details of the Civil Rights Movement and the current Black Lives Matter Movement. However, we will review the definition of race, racism, discrimination, and anti-racism . Students will also listen to a few short stories that enable them to identify what racism looks like in everyday life. Then, we’ll brainstorm ways to “be the rainbow in someone else’s cloud.” Empathy and rejection of intentional or unintentional racist behavior defeats discrimination. Students will be encouraged to participate and share their opinions. I will guide the conversation. The ultimate goal is to make children aware that all people should be treated fairly, and that discrimination is never acceptable. Sincerely, Teacher Jameelah
