Class Experience

Let's be detectives! In this one time class, students will play a game and learn how to identify main idea and details. Together, we'll look at picture clues to guess what they have in common. We'll use these clues to identify the main idea and generate a main idea sentence. Next, we'll do the same thing using sentences. I’ll create a graphic organizer to illustrate our discussion, and students will have a copy to fill out as well. This class is inclusive, I welcome all learners.

Learning Goals

Students will understand that the main idea is the big idea in a passage or text.
Students will understand that the details tell more information about the main idea.
Students will use listening and reading skills to answer questions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a special education teacher and I love working with students to encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. I especially enjoy building a rapport with students which opens the door to the learning process. I like to break lessons into smaller parts, including the use of visual supports, and I use questioning to assess understanding. My classes are upbeat and positive, and I adjust instruction to meet the needs of my students in each class. I hope to see you soon!
