Class Experience

If you have a passion for healthy food, cooking, and videos, this class is right down your alley.

Let's cook and make a TV or YouTube segment. Learn what it takes to take a recipe from paper concept to actual video broadcast. During the 2-week class, we will discuss and talk about what makes a good broadcast segment and what is not a good segment. We'll work together to create a fun recipe with a few "promotable" twists to turn into a fun segment.

Each class will be interactive as we work together on not only the food presentation but our communication of the food. What does it take to talk to the camera successfully while still showing your fans and viewers what you are creating. As a top television producer and director for HGTV and Food Network I have spent years creating how-to DIY segments and am excited to share that insider knowledge with students who have a passion for healthy eating.

This class is mix of broadcast television, culinary arts and nutritional science!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
In the kitchen, parental guidance is recommended as students will be in the kitchen and there are hot appliances and other hazardous things in the kitchen depending on the student's experience level and recipe choice. Parents are advised to oversee the cooking demonstrations that are shot and also ensure there are no allergy issues for the student. The recipes are created and pitched by the student so they should create items that they are familiar with and can eat.
Supply List
Students will need to have ingredients on hand if they choose to shoot a cooking demonstration or learn how to step-it out with hands on demonstrations. Students should also have a video recording device or two if they choose to shoot a cooking segment to share. These can be shot on smartphones, computers, SLRs, Osmos, Pro and Consumer Video Cameras or Super Chip Cameras.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
