Class Experience

Battlebots is a high energy robot combat television series. In this show, competitors design and operate remote-controlled armed and armored machines designed to fight in an arena combat elimination tournament. If your student loves robots and enjoys watching Battlebots, they will love this social club! Each week we will discuss either the previous week's battles or watch clips from a past season and discuss the robots in more detail.

Though I highly encourage students to take part in the discussion, they are welcome to just sit back and watch if they want to. The class is meant to be a fun social experience and a place where fans can get together to talk about Battlebots. Students are welcome to bring fan art, books, or merchandise they like to share with the group such as the miniature robot toys. The television show will air on Thursday evenings starting in December 2020, and can be seen on the Discovery Channel website as well. Students are encouraged to watch the current episode, but do not need to as an overview will be given by the teacher each week.

NOTE: This is an ongoing class. Students are free to come and go as they please. If they want to skip a week, you can either unenroll for that class or ask me to send you the recording of what you missed. We’re always eager to welcome new club members or returning ones! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Schedule of upcoming topics:

Week 1: "What was your favorite bot from past seasons and what new bot are you excited about?"

Week 2: "What makes a a good bot? How would you make one of this season's bots better?"

Week 3: “ If you could combine two bots from any season, what would they be and how would they work?"

Week 4: “If you could be on any team from this season, which team would you join and why?"

Week 5: “What has been the best bot fight you have seen so far?"

For future sessions:
First week of the month: Trivia game and lego build challenge (if legos are not available then a drawing would work!)
Second week of the month: Scavenger hunt or Robotics themed book read aloud
Third week of the month: Throwback to old bots!
Fourth Week of the month: Show and Tell any Battlebots themed item you want
Fifth week if applicable: mix of previous weeks

Teacher expertise and credentials
Though I teach many dance classes, I have been a fan of Battlebots for many years now! My boys have been interested in robotics and I have found myself enjoying and following each season of Battlebots very closely! My oldest son and I enjoy printing out the weekly battle card and making predictions about which bot will win. I look forward to sharing my love of this show with students.
