Important things to mention! 1. A basketball hoop is NOT required 2. Access to two basketballs is preferred, but not required (one is fine) Learn to improve your shooting, dribbling, defensive, and decision-making skills in a small group session with a high-school basketball coach and former Division 1 athlete! I will start each class with some light stretching/warm ups as athletes get ready to practice various drills. During this time we will socially introduce ourselves, build a positive attitude for the class etc. We will then move right into exercises and drills related to the topic for that week. Athletes will have the chance to practice skills, build hand-eye coordination, and engage in friendly competition via different drill games that promote engagement. During this period I will be providing encouragement and feedback in real-time. Students are welcome and encouraged to ask questions in-between drills as well. Finally, we will end class with some conditioning that will help build strength, endurance, speed, balance, and overall fitness. I understand that there are many families that do not have a full basketball hoop in their driveway (including myself due to a hilly front yard!). As such, for any drills that require a hoop (mostly shooting drills), I will be demonstrating on a high quality indoor hoop (one that goes on the back of a door). Learners are welcome to do the same, or practice on an actual hoop they have in their driveway (assuming they have strong internet while outside). Either way, the drills we use and skills we practice are transferable to an actual hoop when athletes have the opportunity to be in front of one! In addition, there are MANY things we practice that do not need a hoop at all! This course will meet twice per week, and the topics for each week are as follows: Week 1 (week of 7/10): Ballhandling/Dribbling (crossovers, triple-threat, pivot/jab step, speed dribble, etc.) Week 2 (week of 7/17): Shooting (form, position relative to the basket, decision-making) Week 3 (week of 7/24): Defense (position and footwork, strategies, etc.) and Conditioning Week 4 (week of 7/31): Additional drills, strategies, and games for topics from weeks 1-3! Please note that each week does not build on the previous, so students can drop in and out as they please. This will allow athletes to customize their coaching and practice. **If a learner would like additional practice with a particular skill at any point (let's say he/she wants to practice dribbling after week 1 but doesn't want to wait until week 4), please message me and I am happy to schedule a separate 1 on 1 session whenever is convenient for you! Use code CUNNINGHAM310 to get $10 off your first class!
Learning Goals
