Class Experience
Transform a circle to a 2-D basketball. Learn to pencil shade and finger shade. My classes are laid back and can be so therapeutic. After teaching Art in Private Schools for 14 years, I learned how this (basic pencil and finger shading) technique can grow student's confidence in drawing. I teach by example. I will demonstrate to them how to pencil shade and how finger shading will blend it even more. We will look at a few other type of sports balls that they can apply the same technique....
What is pencil shading? Why pencil shade? What is finger shading.? Why finger shade? Students will learn the answers to these questions. Students will learn the technique of simple (pencil shading) and (finger shading.)
I would love to see the students choose another sports ball and make it look 2-D. This is purely volunteer homework. Students can send it through Outschool, and I will give them feedback, if they so desire.
2-3 sharpened pencils to class. Eraser Mechanical pencils are excepted.( These are good for students who tend to draw too dark.) Drawing paper preferred. ( Shiny papers are not good for shading and blending.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Informal assessment throughout class. I will offering suggestions and feedback on their drawings throughout class.
45 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
