In this course, we will cover the basics of baking four classic cookie recipes. Cookies are a great place for aspiring bakers to start because they are so easy to customize to one's own taste, they don't require any special tools, and they're quick, easy, and delicious. Starting with the basics helps build young bakers' confidence, and soon they'll be baking all sorts of sweet confections! Each week, I will post a video recipe that shows students step-by-step how to bake that week's cookie....
Students will learn the basics of baking, kitchen cleanliness, how to measure different ingredients, and will gain better time management and organizational skills through the practice of mise-en-place. At the end of the course, students will know how to bake four classic cookie recipes.
Students are expected to bake one batch of cookies per week (following along with the teacher's recorded instructions). Once they bake their batch of cookies, students will share a photo of their baked cookies with the class, along with at least once sentence about how the baking process went. Students will also analyze an "incorrect" recipe each week to determine what is wrong with the recipe and how to fix it. They will work with their classmates to complete this.
