Class Experience

Students will learn the basics of baking, kitchen cleanliness, how to measure different ingredients, and will gain better time management and organizational skills through the practice of mise-en-place. At the end of the course, students will know how to bake four classic cookie recipes.
Students are expected to bake one batch of cookies per week (following along with the teacher's recorded instructions). Once they bake their batch of cookies, students will share a photo of their baked cookies with the class, along with at least once sentence about how the baking process went.

Students will also analyze an "incorrect" recipe each week to determine what is wrong with the recipe and how to fix it. They will work with their classmates to complete this.
Supplies: Mixing bowls(2), spatula, bowl, baking tray, oven, microwave, egg separator (substitutions are okay), spoon, fork Ingredients: -Sugar Cookies: Flour, baking soda, baking powder, butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract -Snickerdoodles: Flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, eggs, vanilla extract, sugar, salt, cinnamon -Peanut Butter Cookies: Flour, unsalted butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, sugar, vanilla extract, egg, baking powder -Thumbprint Cookies: Butter, sugar, eggs, flour, jam/preserves
I will provide feedback each week when students share how their cookies turned out.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Potential Hazards: We will be using an oven and a microwave in this course.
Potential Allergens: Eggs, wheat, peanuts
