Learners will be able to manipulate shapes in Tinkercad to create a simple house.
Mrs. Fimbel has been teaching Elementary school for 10 years. As part of an interdisciplinary enrichment class Mrs. Fimbel began teaching TinkerCad. In 2020 Mrs. Fimbel gave a workshop to the Texas Computer Educators Association about using TinkerCad as part of a Board Game Design project.
Learners are encouraged to continue tinkering after the class is over, especially to finish their house if it is not finished by the end of class.
Learners will need parents to set up a Tinkercad account for them on Tinkercad.com TinkerCAD is COPPA Compliant resource see this article for more information: https://blog.tinkercad.com/2013/07/30/whats-up-with-education-accounts. If a temporary account is needed while waiting for a parent-approved account for kids under 13 please message me for information. These temporary accounts will be deleted without notice frequently to ensure student safety and to comply with Outschool standards.
No formal assessments will be given. Teacher will have time for questions and answers and try to assist students who need more help if they can share their screen for teacher feedback.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please note that TinkerCad has a search feature where you can search a library of models created by other people. This library may contain items inappropriate for your child. Please discuss with your learner what to do if they come across something in appropriate in the search, or let them know they should not use the search feature without your supervision. In this younger version of the class I do not always demonstrate this feature. However, if a learner specifically asks about it I will show how to use it to search for something cool and appropriate (usually flames or cats).
