Greetings, everyone! I am La Profesora Rivera. Originally from Puerto Rico, I spent my childhood there until the age of 10. Upon arriving in the United States, I eagerly sought to learn English. Embracing the challenge, I requested to be placed in all English classes. Despite limited resources, I began my language journey with a black and white television and a pocket dictionary. Eventually, I became the translator for my family, accompanying them to medical appointments and grappling with unfamiliar medical terminology at a young age, which was uncomfortable for me.
After completing high school, I embarked on a personal journey of self-discovery and self-fulfillment as a woman. Along this path, I worked with children and families from diverse learning backgrounds for the past 25 years. This experience in an urban school environment inspired me to pursue a degree in education, specializing in "Online Teaching and Learning." I obtained my Masters of Education (M.Ed) from Post University and graduated with honors, holding a Bachelor's of Science (B.S.) from Charter Oak State College. Additionally, I am TESOL certified.
Continuously seeking ways to make learning enjoyable for my students, I strive to create a classroom environment where they can actively participate and showcase their understanding of the lessons. During my teaching, I incorporate energy and creativity, regularly checking for comprehension through interactive activities. Outside of teaching, you can find me having fun with my children and pets, or staying active on my treadmill desk.
I eagerly look forward to welcoming you to my classroom.
Best regards,
Professor Rivera
