Each week, we will start with a class meeting via Zoom, where students will learn the topic of the week. Classes meet once a week and students will be given an assignment during each class session to complete before the next session. If students are comfortable, they may share their photography with each other during this time. If students do not wish to share their photos with the class, they are not required to. However, this is a good opportunity for feedback and growth. We will...
Students will learn the basics of how to use a camera. Students will learn how to choose and showcase a subject using various techniques such as framing, depth of field, and the rule of thirds. Students will learn how to use a zoom feature on their camera to take photos from a longer distance. Students will be able to take portraits. Students will be able to improve their photo taking skills by using the techniques taught in this course.
I've been a teacher in a traditional classroom since 2002. During that time, I have experience with pre-K through 8th grade. To further my interest in photography, I completed the New York Institute of Photography courses and received my certificate of completion in 2006. I've also completed several online training to strengthen my skills. I have photographed weddings, real estate, and portraits professionally but I absolutely love photographing nature and macro shots!
Students will be assigned a photo taking task each week that they will complete on their own and then upload to the course page. If students wish, they may share their work with the class for feedback. However, public sharing is not required. Remember, the more you take pictures, the better you'll get!
Students will need a digital camera to complete this course. It does not have to be anything fancy or high-tech. As long as it takes pictures, it's fine!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students' assignments will be informally assessed by the teacher to determine if progress is being made.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents may need to assist students with uploading photos from their camera to the classroom.
