US Grade 4 - 7
2,000 years of history -- London has alot to offer! Let's break in down into bitesize pieces, and in this one-time class we will start with a focus on The City of London -- also known as the Square Mile. Today it is full of skyscrapers and businesses, but it is the oldest part of London and the roads date back to the Romans. We specifically look at the uniqueness of The City -- from its livery companies, its wards, and its own government headed by the Lord Mayor. This is a cross between a history class and a virtual tour! Perfect for students without any background knowledge, geared to make history fun and interesting. In addition to lots of facts, students are encouraged to think critically and discuss in class various topics we cover. At the end, a pop quiz will help students recall the facts they have learned in the class. The instructor will teach using discussion, slides, images and an interactive map. Students are encouraged to ask questions along the way.
Learning Goals
* Students will understand the difference between The City of London and Greater London
* Students will learn about the City government, including the Aldermen and Lord Mayor
* Students will be able to identify on a map the various wards and name three differences between this area and Greater London
* Students will enjoy a virtual tour to gain more knowledge of the City of London

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional tour guide in London and love going around the city (sometimes dressed in costume!) and teaching visitors about the fascinating history. With over 2000 years of events, there is plenty to learn! My signature tour is where I dress like a singing nanny from the Edwardian period and teach about suffragettes and chimney sweeps!
If you have been dreaming of visiting London, but want to get a head start on learning more about this city and the history here.... my classes are perfect for you.
I believe that you can learn and have fun at the same time. No subject is too boring, and I hope you will find my classes to be entertaining, engaging and educational. During class, I often change costumes to help keep the learners engaged and I encourage dressing up in class!
