Class Experience
Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole are seen as two of the pioneers in nursing, with each contributing in their own way. In this class, we will discuss their lives and how they found themselves in the middle of a war, helping soldiers to heal. We will discuss how they gained their nursing skills, their contribution to nursing, legacy and how they are remembered today. As a London tour guide, I offer guided walking tours about history and people who have lived and worked in London. This tour began as a virtual tour I conducted during the pandemic to tourist who were not able to visit London for the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday. Celebrating Mary Seacole and teaching student of her contribution is paramount. Her two sculptures in London are part of my tours, where visitors from all over the world can learn about her work. As nurses have been our greatest heroes during the pandemic, it is important to remember these two women and allow new generations to discover them.
